Subject: Tevin H
Title: Owner of Unavailable
First things first, can you introduce yourself to your community?
Yes, of course! My name is Tevin Haye. I am the owner and curator of Unavailable. A e-commerce platform geared to menswear. I am a native of Ottawa,ON. Furthermore, I've been a part of the brand now for 2 years. It's been a pleasure to watch the community grow in such a short period of time.
What made you pursuit a career in fashion?
Honestly, I think it was my interest in pop art culture. Understanding textiles, patterns, colours etc... is really what got me into it. Also being a kid from the 90s, I always wanted to rock what I saw in music videos or fashion magazines. I love hearing the story behind brands and how they come about. I feel like I'm in a position to help tell those stories from past and current garments with Unavailable.
Why did you decide to be apart of Unavailable/take control of the brand?
I've always been interested in street culture as well as buying and selling it. What really pushed me to be a part and eventually take over the brand was the unique approach the business had. It allowed me to fulfill that itch I had as a kid. Getting my hands on exclusive and Unavailable garments/items.
Current Top 5 favourite brands?
Damn! That's always a tricky one. I look at fashion like art. I really pay attention to the detail and time that is put into the construction and concept. That being said, (in no particular order) my top 5 (right now) would be Gallery Dept, Rick Owens, Off--White, Greg Lauren, Raf Simons.
In your opinion what is easier to maintain? Clothing or Footwear?
I would definitely say clothing is easier. As much as I love shoes, you gotta wear them. Thats what they're for. So if you really do wear them, then the upkeep has to be consistent. Shoes are also less forgiving than clothes.
What are your thoughts on the current state of fashion/ Where do you see the state of fashion in the next year?
Personally I think fashion is in an evolution right now. It's hard to put a finger on it as its constantly changing so quickly. In the next year, fashion will continue to be heavily influenced by the internet. Fashion will take on different mediums and be explored in ways that fit this current generation and the internet culture.
